FTN/FRN Participation Policies
I. Free Tarot Network (FTN)
The Free Tarot Network represents a community of Tarot readers who offer the public free one-card readings. Operating under the umbrella of the ATA, the Free Tarot Network provides a unique learning environment for both new and experienced Tarot readers to practice their craft.
A desire to read for others is the only prerequisite for participating in FTN. All FTN readers are assigned to a more experienced mentor who provides support, coaching, and guidance throughout the reader's membership with the FTN. The relationship between the mentor and the reader is an essential ingredient in developing the reader's Tarot skills and capabilities, and in maintaining the high ethical standards and quality of the FTN. Therefore, FTN readers need to be prepared to work closely and cooperatively with their mentor.
II. Free Reading Network (FRN)
The Free Reading Network represents a community of experienced Tarot readers who offer the public free three- to five-card readings. Operating under the umbrella of the ATA, the Free Reading Network is the "next step" for more experienced readers to develop their skills using more detailed spreads and reading at a higher level. All FRN readers are also assigned to a mentor who provides support, coaching, and guidance throughout the reader's membership with the FRN.
As the FRN is directed towards more experienced Tarot readers, FRN membership is limited to readers who meet at least one of the following criteria:
FRN readers receive the additional incentive of a free Reader Biography webpage and the ability to link to the reader's own Tarot website.
III. Terms of Participation in FTN and FRN
1. Provision of Contact Information – All readers on FTN and FRN must provide the network managers with accurate contact information, including their actual full names (not a reading alias) and an e-mail address where they can be reached. Existing readers must ensure that this information is provided no later than January 1, 2003. FTN/FRN staff shall keep an accurate database of all FTN/FRN readers, including their full name, reading name, e-mail address, mentor/mentee assignments, ATA membership status, and administrative fee renewal date (if any).
2. ATA Membership – Although ATA provides the infrastructure and technology that makes both networks possible, membership in the ATA is not required for participation in the networks. Effective immediately, non-ATA members will be allowed to join and read on the networks.
3. Administrative Fee – The ATA, as a non-profit organization, must cover costs associated with running and maintaining the networks. Therefore, no later than January 1, 2003, non-ATA members participating in the networks must pay an annual fee of $10. This requirement applies to existing readers as well as new applicants. Administrative fees are waived for ATA members as one of the benefits of membership, since the annual dues paid by members help support the networks.
4. Code of Ethics – All readers on FTN and FRN must read and follow the ATA Code of Ethics in their activities on the networks, whether or not they are an ATA member. ATA retains the right to modify the Code of Ethics and set membership requirements for FTN/FRN, and ensure that FTN/FRN readers follow the Code of Ethics and meet the membership requirements. Either the FTN/FRN Managers or the ATA Board of Directors may take action, up to and including dismissal from FTN/FRN and/or ATA, if a reader engages in unethical behavior or no longer meets the membership requirements (e.g., non-payment of fees). If the reader is an ATA member, normal ATA grievance review procedures apply to any such action.
5. FTN/FRN Specific Policies – FTN and FRN readers are also expected to follow the specific policies and guidelines of the FTN and FRN, as developed and periodically updated by the network managers. These policies may address, but are not limited to:
All major policies will go through an approval process with the ATA Board to ensure consistency and alignment with the goals and values of both the ATA Board and the FTN and FRN, and will be posted on the Members page. Inability or refusal to follow the FTN/FRN policies may result in removal from the networks.
FTN/FRN Grievance Handling Policy
When there is a grievance between a FTN/FRN member and another member, mentor, or the FTN/FRN staff, the reader should take the following actions, in order:
When a grievance is presented to the FTN/FRN Manager, the FTN/FRN Manager will discuss the issue with the FTN/FRN Board in order to give the grievance a fair hearing. The ATA Vice President of Networks may also participate if appropriate. The FTN/FRN Manager will then arrive at a final decision. If a member of the FTN/FRN staff is involved in the grievance, that member will recuse himself or herself from the discussion and/or decision.
